Family Caregiver Respite Program

The Family Caregiver Respite Program provides temporary respite for family members who are caring for loved ones. Respite may be provided in the home or in a congregate setting.  Our clients include adults both with Alzheimer’s disease and or other related dementias who need only minimal physical assistance and would benefit from socialization and stimulating activities to enrich their lives.

In Home Setting

What services are provided? A trained worker can go into the home to provide:

  • A regular break for caregivers
  • Stimulation and socialization for persons with dementia
  • Nutritional Support
  • Provide leisure activities

What are the eligibility requirements?

  • The person receiving care must have a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia
  • There must be an unpaid caregiver
  • The care must be provided in West Virginia

Is there a charge for services?
The fee for services depends upon the income of the person receiving care.

Congregate Setting – Adult Day Center

The congregate setting “Our Place” is a group respite social model program that provides relief to unpaid caregivers, whether family members or friends. Your loved one will be in a safe, social, stimulating, and supervised environment.  Our Place is certified as a Best Friends Approach where clients and staff share meals, music, exercise, dance, laughter, reminiscence, and socialization.  All programming is designed to help maintain cognitive abilities, memory enhancement and life enrichment.

Our Place is conveniently located at 1710 Pennsylvania Avenue, in Charleston. The center is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Our caregivers are trained in CPR, First Aid, OSHA regulations, housebound caregiving skills, and Alzheimer’s and dementia care. Family members and friends are also offered training, counseling, support, and referral services upon request.
